Our Doctors
Clarence Vanderlei, OD
Dr. Vanderlei grew up in Avon, SD and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota. He graduated magna cum laude in 2016 with his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is experienced with well-vision exams, specialized vision-medical care, specialty contact lens fitting, cataract and refractive surgery post-operative care and disease management. He provides specialized care for glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, dry eye and headache management. Dr. Vanderlei is a member of the American Optometric Association and the South Dakota Optometric Society. Dr. Vanderlei lives in Orange City, IA with his wife Danielle and son Daschle.
Victoria Johnson, OD

Dr. Victoria Johnson is from Elk Point, South Dakota and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. She went on to complete her residency training in Ocular Disease/Cornea & Contact Lens/Refractive and Ocular Surgery at Georgia Eye Partners in Atlanta, GA. She enjoys participating in volunteer efforts, including a mission trip to St. Lucia and numerous vision screenings. Outside of the clinic, you will most likely find Dr. Johnson on the golf course, reading a book or spending time with friends and family.
Our Staff
Erin
Erin graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 2014. After high school, she attended Stewarts School for her Cosmetology license along with her associate’s degree in business management. Erin and her husband, Tyler, moved to Vermillion in 2019 and have loved living here. In her free time, she enjoys fishing with her husband, being outside with their dog, Chester & reading. She serves as our office manager.
Kelsey
Kelsey is from Yankton, SD and graduated from Yankton High School in 2010. She then attended the University of South Dakota where she received her degree in Psychology. Kelsey lives in Vermillion, SD. She serves as our Optical Manager.
Gayle
Gayle grew up in Vermillion and attended the University of South Dakota. Life and adventure took her to West River, SD for fifteen years! She returned to Vermillion in 2019 when her daughter came to USD.
Amanda
​
Amanda was born in Lincoln, Nebraska , but considers herself a Vermillion local after growing up here from the time she was in 2nd grade. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 2021. Amanda enjoys spending time with family and friends, including her dogs Frankie and Hazel. Plus she loves going to concerts and reading about whatever is currently sparking her interest.
Fun Fact: Amanda has been coming to Prairie Eye Clinic for her eye care since she was little, and got her first pair of glasses here!
